There was a lot of excitement that surrounding the release of the CX919. Being one of the first sticks to incorporate the Quad Core RK 3188T chip, it was an instant “must have” for Android Stick enthusiasts like myself. There was much speculation about some of the supposed features – such as the WiFi antenna (now common) and a real Reset button (not just a pinhole) that would make flashing ROM much easier. It’s easy to take these things for granted now, but when it was released the CX919 was at the leading edge of what was available to the Android TV Stick buyer.
The CX919 can be considered a third generation stick since it incorporates both the Quad Core Rock Chip 3188T and it’s sister GPU, the Mali 400, also a Quad Core processor. Going beyond what is traditionally included in third generation sticks, the CX919 expands upon memory and storage by including 2 GB of DDR 3 RAM and 16 GB of Nand Flash memory for program storage.
Other welcomed improvements include a swiveled WiFi antenna, a true reset button, 2 Micro and 1 full-sized USB ports and an HDMI adapter cable. The addition of a WiFi antenna means that signal strength issues plaguing earlier devices is a non-issue here. The reset button will put a smile on the face of TV Stick hobbyists who like to experiment with upgrading ROM for enhancements and performance improvements.
The EASYTONE CX919 is available with a remote control for a surprisingly low price.
The CX919 comes standard with Android 4.4 KitKat, which is more or less the standard OS version for Android Sticks. The ROM can be enhanced or upgraded with various tested implementations found on enthusiast forums such as Freaktab. Several builds have shown benchmark speed improvements of over 50% (YMMV).
If you’ve done any amount of research into Stick Computing, you’ve discovered that WiFi reception is among the biggest complaint of Stick users. The CX919 attempts to address this issue by including a swiveled WiFi antenna that shows an absolute performance boost over non-antenna models.
Another nice convenience is the grouping of the OTG port and the full-sized USB port on the rear of the unit. This makes it easier to get things in and out without accidentally unplugging the stick during operation. The Micro USB power receptacle has been moved safely to the side.
The CX919 is a star performer when it comes to streaming. HD content from Netflix, Youtube, KODI, or any variety of media services is delivered without stop or stutter. And because it’s Android, you’ll have access to the voluminous content in the Google Play Store.
What I like about the CX919
This is an excellent choice for both the beginner and hobbyist. Those just starting out will appreciate the easy setup and included remote control for quick access to all of the media services. Hobbyists will be happy with the ease of ROM upgrades and access to a variety of options for improving performance. Since the CX919 can be purchased for under $50, even with a remote, it’s a super bargain.
With the included storage at 16 GB, there’s less need to immediately expand, even though the 32 GB SD port is available.
This Stick is speedy. AnTuTu benchmark scores were well above average at around 15500. As I mentioned above, a more recent ROM offers serious performance improvements. One such ROM showed AnTuTu scores at over 25000 – a 50% increase.
While the CX919 doesn’t have any special ventilation, the typical ports are even absent, it does not seem to have problems with overheating. Among the issues reported, overheating was not one of them.
I’ve written extensively on WiFi connection issues, but the swivel antenna included with the CX919 provides a measurable increase in the strength of signal and relevant performance increases.
I give the CX919 3.8 out of 5 stars Due to some of the issues noted below in the Pros and Cons section. Otherwise, as I’ve already stated, it’s a good choice.

Compared to other Sticks of this generation, the CX919 is still an above average performer. Streaming and video quality are superior to similarly priced competitors. WiFi reception on the tested unit was better than units without external antenna. It runs Android 4.4, which is tested and stable. Because of its low price and the availability of third party support, it still makes a good choice.
Many owners opt to upgrade the ROM on the CX919. I always recommend that you only attempt to upgrade ROMs if you have some expertise and can follow the instructions exactly. Improperly flashing a ROM can cause your device to become non-functional!

There are many Forums dedicated to getting the most out of your Android device. One of the most known is the Vondroid Forums. There is a section devoted to nearly all of the Mini PC’s I review. There’s a very good discussion of Recovery Tool, Official Firmware, Custom Firmware, and other tools located here on the forum.
