If you’ve had difficulty running Bluetooth speakers while also having paired input devices like mice and keyboards – as well as streaming over the WiFi, you are not alone. I have a nice set of speakers that are just sitting on the shelf because I can’t get them to work reliably with my Android PC. You see, my favorite Stick Computer has only single-band WiFi, and it’s more common for devices in the 2.4Ghz range to get interference from Bluetooth devices. For that reason, it’s better not use a Bluetooth speaker to stream audio from your single band WiFi connected stick.
Since many Android Mini’s have no additional output for audio, other than the HDMI port, you don’t have many options when it comes to playing sound. If you’re one of those people who just want to play audio and your monitor has no speakers or you’d rather not run your television all day, the better choice is to connect up a pair of USB speakers.
Desktop speakers have come a long way from their tinny (and tiny) beginnings. Early computer speakers were known for their pathetic lack of range and hollow sound. This isn’t the case anymore. Even inexpensive USB speakers with digital sound allow you experience a vibrant spectrum of music and sound. They come in a wide variety of size and performance, delivering high quality digital music from your streams or media library.
Being the owner of a Stick Computer, you are of course limited in both number of USB ports and the available power coming through that port. So if you want to connect a pair of USB speakers you’ll need to make another purchase For best results with USB audio, it’s recommended you also buy a powered USB hub and connect the speakers through the hub. Don’t worry, you won’t experience a loss of quality in doing so and will still be ahead of the bothersome Bluetooth streaming issues.
What I like about the Logitech S150 USB Speakers
Logitech has been around since nearly the beginning of the personal computer era. Chances are you already own or have purchased at least one Logitech product in the past. They consistantly rank near the top of the best performing product for the price. While generally making products in the lower to medium consumer-grade range, they are still well known for their quality.
The Logitech S150’s are sleek and stylish. They sport a smooth black matte finish and deep gray cloth speaker cover. The look is modern, but their form factor is unobtrusive. Controls are conveniently located on the bottom of the front panel of the right speaker.
In the box they include a 1.2 meter (4ft) USB cable for connecting to your Mini PC hub. The cord between the two speakers is 5 ft, giving you ample room to place them on either side of a TV or monitor.
The audio output range is a solid 90hz to 20Khz, providing an acceptable amount of desktop bass while still hitting the high notes. All of this is pushed out with an absence of the hiss or cracking you might find in other inexpensive desktop speakers. You’d have to turn them up well past comfortable listening levels before significant distortion is apparent.
Logitech International S.A. is a Swiss maker of personal computer and mobile accessories, with Global Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland and Newark, California. Some customer reviews
I just plugged these babies in, it was really easy. Just opened the box, plugged the USB cable in, and turned my computer on.
Really like these speakers. The range and response is good for movies, music, and video games in my small home office.
I was looking around for a while for the least expensive and still good quality speakers, and these seem to be them.
If you’re the owner of an Android Mini PC and you’re looking to add or upgrade the audio in your setup, the Logitech S150 USB speakers make an excellent choice. If you don’t have existing audio output and limited USB ports, you may need to purchase a USB hub, but I’ve recommended a good one in another post on the site. Check out my article about USB hubs. The price, performance and quality of these speakers make the decision an easy one. You can’t go wrong with buying a known brand from a source you can trust.
